Things Which The Wise Must Consider
(지혜로운 사람들이 생각해야 만 할 것들)
If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.
(만약 사람이 가난한 사람들의 외침에 귀를 닫으면, 그도 또한 외쳐도 응답을 받지 못할 것이니라.)
A gift given in secret soothes anger, and a bribe concealed in the cloak pacifies great wrath.
(비밀리에 주어진 선물을 화를 누그러뜨리며, 망토 속에 숨겨진 뇌물은 큰 분노를 진정시키느니라.)
When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.
(정의가 행해질 때, 그것은 의로운 자에게 기쁨을 가져오나, 악을 행하는 자들에게는 공포를 가져오느니라.)
A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead.
(깨달음의 길로부터 벗어나는 사람은 죽은 자들의 무리들 속에서 거하게 되느니라.)
He who loves pleasure will become poor； whoever loves wine and oil will never be rich.
(즐거움을 사랑하는 자는 가난해 질 것이니, 포도주와 기름을 사랑하는 누구라도 결코 부하지 못할 것이니라.)
The wicked become a ransom for the righteous, and the unfaithful for the upright.
(사악한 자들은 의로운 사람들을 위한 대속물이 될 것이며, 진실하지 못한 자들은 정직한 사람들의 대속물이 될 것이니라.)
Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.
(다투기 좋아하고 성내는 아내와 함께 하는 것보다 사막에서 사는 것이 더 나으니라.)
