Sayings of King Lemuel
(르무엘왕의 잠언)
The sayings of King Lemuel - an oracle his mother taught him: “O my son, O son of my womb, O son of my vows, do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings.
(르무엘왕의 잠언이니, 즉 그의 어머니가 그에게 가르친 지혜의 말이니, "오 나의 아들, 내 태 속에서 나온 아들, 내 맹세로 태어난 내 아들아, 네 힘을 여인들에게 쓰지말고, 네 힘을 왕들을 망하게 하는 자들에게 쓰지 말라.)
“It is not for kings, O Lemuel - not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, lest they drink and forget what the law decrees, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.
(오 르무엘, 왕에게 옳지 않으니, 즉 포도주를 마시는 것이 왕에게 옳지 않고, 맥주를 탐하는 것이 통치자에게 옳지 않으니, 그들이 율법이 명하는 것을 잊고 모든 억압받는 자들에게서 그들의 권리를 박탈할까 두려우니라.)
Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish； let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.
(죽어가는 자들에게 맥주를 주고, 고통 속에 있는 자들에게 포도주를 주라, 왜냐하면, 그들로 마시고 그들이 그들의 가난을 잊고 그들의 불행을 더 이상 기억하지 않을 것이기 때문이니라.)
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly； defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
(자신을 변호할 수 없는 사람들과 극빈한 모든 사람들을의 권리를 대변해라. 소리를 높이고 공평하게 판단하며, 가난한 사람들과 곤궁한 사람들의 권리를 보호하라.)
